Week of February 28

Gertrude Ederle

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  This weather is so beautiful.  Hopefully you were able to get out and enjoy it.  This week we will reading the story America's Champion Swimmer: Gertrude Ederle.  This story is a biography of Gertrude Ederle who swam the English Channel.  We will also be talking about other important women in history and their accomplishments.  We will be reviewing character, setting, problem and solution.

In writing, we will continue working on our biographies.  The students are interviewing a friend in class and will be writing a biography about that person.  It is exciting to hear about each other and learn how we are alike and how very different we can be.

In math, we will continue to review elapsed time and making change from a dollar.  These skills are very difficult and are posing a challenge for many of us.  You can still click on the links I provided last week for some additional practice in these skills.

Please be aware that homework will be completed in cursive from now on.  We have learned all of the lower case letters and need to practice those.  When they are completing spelling homework, please be sure they are writing in cursive.
