Week of March 14

I cannot believe we are already at the end of the third nine weeks.  Friday was our last day for this nine weeks.  Report cards will be going home the Monday after Spring Break.  That is Monday, March 28.  Please make sure you sign and return the card as soon as possible.

Next week we will be reading the story "How Our Family Lives in America".  The students will be learning about children from Puerto Rico, Senegal and China.  The story tells students of these children's cultures and how they still honor those cultures in America.  We will be looking at the vaious countries and focusing on the reading skill main idea and supporting details.  You student can practice main idea with one of the games on this website.  Main Idea Games

In math, we will be beginning our math T-Cap practice. This will be a practice and review of all the skills we have covered and how they will appear on T-Cap.  The students will continue to have their t-test daily and have homework in this area.

Thank you so much for checking your child's binder each night.  Be sure that they have written their homework down as this is their responsibility.  If they have not, ask them.  It is important that the students practice responsibilty in making sure their binders are signed and their homework is complete.  Thanks for all you do.

Week of March 7

This week we will be reading the story "Suki's Kimono".  This is a story of a little girl who comes to American from Japan.  We will be studying Japan and talking about comparing and contrasting our country with Japan.  The students will be making Kimonos on Thursday for a Japanese party on Friday.  Students who did not bring in a shirt or order a shirt will be assigned a project to be done at home and turned in on Friday.  We will be having running records in reading groups and will not be bringing home books this week.

In math we are working on counting and making change from a dollar.  Keep working on math facts at home.  In English, we are looking at verbs.  In writing, we will be finishing out biographies and out stories for the PBS Writing Contest.

Tuesday will be a field trip to see the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra at North Cleveland Church of God.    We are also collecting money for the "Do Something Challenge".  The students are raising money to send music to schools still struggling from Hurricane Katrina, send toys to the patients at St. Jude's and helping the ASPCA.  The winning team will be the team with the most money by weight.  They will be awarded with a bowling trip in May.

Thank you for checking in on our blog.  Have a great week.
